RAISING RENEE is a new film about painter Beverly McIver, and the intersection of life, paint and film.
Bev’s paintings have long involved themes from her family life, including her mother Ethel’s work as a maid and her sister Renee, who is develop-
mentally disabled. In 2004, the McIvers' lives were upended when Ethel died unexpectedly. Bev had promised to take care of Renee after her mother’s death, and suddenly the realities of that promise were put to the test.
Now in production, RAISING RENEE is about a unique group of women, the tenacity of family bonds and the power of art to transform experience into something beyond words.
